Geekcorps director is now in Egypt researching opportunities for project with the MCIT and Ministry of education funded by the USAID. Currently he's in Alexandria and returning to Cairo tonight, so he'd be interested to meet the Alex people during the day if anyone's interested. Cairo people, I'm arranging for a meeting later tonight to discuss and understand what's the project all about. Anyone interested? keep in touch

Update

As of yet nothing is 100% confirmed, but geekcorps would like to hear from FLOSS enthusiasts with certain skills for a potential project in Egypt funded by the USAID towards the smart schools projects, the required skill set includes but is not limited to:

  • Network administration
  • FLOSS business model management
  • Technical projects management
  • Community portal management

So anybody with knowledge of any of the above skills please send me his CV to elezabi{{at}}gmail.

The project will also give a better chance to local hardware manfacturers and software makers willing to work in open source.

Geekcorps cannot promise anything yet as the project hasn't yet been finalized and not expected to begin before October, however I highly recommend this for those who wanna make an impact on the FLOSS state in Egypt, I assume it's a chance for us all.

Please

who was interested?

This was posted around 11 in the morning, by keeping an eye on the responses you could tell how much the interest was.

Anyway as Linuxawy stated, the guy has a proposal that matters for those who CARE for the community's benefits, and update is being posted.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Although I think that

Although I think that what's GeekCorps are asking for is too much IMHO, By that I mean the 5 years of experience required to participate which I personally don't have and that's why I don't think I'll be of any help but I'm very much interested in following up with this.

5 years is not strict

The 5 years is not a strict requirement, but it's preferable in some situations, that is for those expected to deliver knowledge to others as well as for those who could volunteer out of their jobs.

So long and thanks for all the fish.
