SearchHi, I am a new linux user (with only one year experiance)
I visited this website long time ago, but i found it 2 complicated
I didn't find any start page.
So I thought it is silly website and I googled for a better one.
Today (after one year) I heard alot about you (especially when you visited my inistitue)
I decided to visit your website and try again to understand
still the only thing I could figoure out is the forum
I am sure this website is more than just forum. for example what does this word mean "Gathering 21st of May 2005"?
all of what i am asking for is to make a start page (for the new visitors).
this page should contain the following:
1-an intro for the website and the group
2-The group's rules
3-The group's Activities
4-some How-To (i.e. if you want to visit our forum click here, if you want to know the latest news click here, if you ...... click here)
If found page like this when i came this website for the first time, I would be member here long time ago

A guide is needed
I agree with mdk man. When I first subscribed on the LUG, I spent some time can't keep track of the replies on the forums or the events, till I get used to the site and I realized that the secret lies in the link "recent posts" in the top right corner links list. That is for tracking, but for initiating a forum or an event .. etc.., you can use the links in the top or the buttons in the left of the page. And for the links on the right, they are like summaries for all the EGLUG current issues.

I'll open a wiki page where we can answer these questions and in the end convert this page to a proper article.
bas I'd like to ask you some stuff.

hehehe sorry for that, the gathering is an open meeting we do weekly at Al Sakia, where you can go to meet mmbers of the group, to ask any GNU/Linux and FOSS questions you have and to get help in installing GNU/Linux (bring your pc). sometimes we announce that certain topics will be discussed there (usually initial organization of events happens in gatherings).

what kind of intro, in our front page which has the groups news you it start with
now the about page explains who we are and what we. so isn't that enough as an intro? what else do we need to add?

the group rules are linked to from the front page as I said.

the group upcoming activities are listed under event, from there on you can browse back to older activities, and a summary of what we do is provided in the about page, important activities and first time activities are reported on the front page.
now what is the problem exactly, is it not clear that group activities are under events? or is the problem that the things posted under events are not clear (as in your question about what is the gathering).

sounds very reasonable, please tell us everything you want covered under that howto so we can make it perfect.

I have created a wiki page and copied what did u proposed here.you can edit them when you got a new ideas or may be other member could help you .

wiki and your wiki page
the wiki link (under the EGLUG logo) is link to all wiki pages we have.
there is Articles Under Construction section,which contains wiki pages that(hopefully)will be one day an Article.
so you can access the page through wiki->Articles Under Construction->start page
open it and you will find a tab called edit.feel free to change the content or add on the wiki page .
any member can easily edit any wiki page and contribute.wiki is a type of knowledge sharing .
